SCORCHY SMITH by Noel Sickles

One of the most important comics strips of all time.

Before Scorchy Smith there were two kinds of art styles for comic strips. The "bigfoot" style (for humorous comics) and the illustrative/romantic style by Foster and Raymond. Sickles invented a naturalistic/impressionistic style which was perfect for the emerging adventure strip. It was a major influence on Milton Caniff, Alex Toth, Hugo Pratt and countless others.

Nostalgia Press did a two-volume edition in the late 70s. The books reprinted 18 months of the strip. All the best sequences are included with the exception of the last 3 months.

The quality is usual for this type of collections, reproduction is of medium quality. While some strips are of excellent quality the reproduction of others is abysmal. And some strips are altogether missing.
The months February and March 1935 are particularly bad.

Here are a few weeks of the strips. These are retouched photocopies. Most of these are of better quality than those printed in the Nostalgia books. And the missing strips are here, too.
